For our November webinar, I invited Doshin Roshi, Integral Zen Master, poet, friend, teacher and troublemaker, to host the call and share with us deep insight from 50 years of serious meditation practice and profound understanding of Integral theory through the work of Ken Wilber.
I’ve just been in a silent seven day Integral Zen retreat Doshin led at Findhorn and am struck by his deep sense of care and understanding of many of the challenges we struggle with – collaborative decision making, over sensitivity, emphasis on feelings, lack of accountability, rejection of hierarchies, limited financial sustainability. Painful yet fascinating!
“It’s muddy, it’s difficult work and it’s always messy,” Doshin explains. “The ability to evaluate with likes and dislikes, emotions and categories of goods and bads must be transmuted into the wisdom of pure discernment, it’s Rumi’s field beyond all polar opposites.”
Participants from Esalen Institute, Mount Madonna Center, Findhorn Foundation, Haven Foundation, Breitenbush Hot Springs, Retreat Guru and the Mankind Project joined in this interactive conversation. Many more centers will watch the recording afterwards that focused on the following and included a deep understanding of the issue of diversity – our theme for the 2018 Gathering hosted by Omega Institute for Holistic Studies.
- Appreciating the contribution our centers have made and the role they’ve played in the transformation of the world until now
- Listening deeply to the most pressing problems we struggle with as we attempt to provide effective leadership
- Exploring the medicine for the challenges of the post modern egalitarian age (expressed through Trump, Brexit etc.) and how our centers can evolve beyond internal challenges to meet the needs of today
Having identified some of the issues and understood the underlying problems, Doshin explained the causing beliefs and action steps to evolve. The full one hour recording offers a rich context and exploration and there were many nodding heads and smiles of recognition. This is only the beginning and we invite you to continue the conversation with us as we dive deeper over the coming months.

Hi Christine,
Wonderful call… wow. I feel like we could have indeed spent the day with Doshin.
I love to bring these experiences and conversations back to us so we can extend that inward. Thanks again for all the incredible work that you are doing.
Warmly,

Christine,
Wow, another great web meeting!
As I said, the marketing web meeting hit the mark for me, but the shining the light session today drilled to the core. The hour seemed like 10 minutes and the takeaways will last forever. I loved it and look forward to more messy time learning and applying … integral theory, performance contradictions, conflict liberation, polarity dynamics, … my head is spinning!
I was pleased to hear that you invited Doshin Roshi to the next Centers Gathering. I hope he accepts. I believe any of those topics would make for a spirited workshop of high value.
Thank you.

Deep gratitude to you, Christine, for organizing and facilitating the call. It was a joy to be with a group of people who seem so open to and ready for the teaching that Doshin Roshi is bringing – synthesizing the way he does the teachings of his teachers JunPo Roshi and Ken Wilber. I was impressed with the group’s open curiosity and intuitive understanding. I hope it is the beginning of many dives into these issues. Please let me know how I can support you and HCN.
with gratitude
